Saturday and Sunday May 3-4, 2008 Pittsburgh, PA This will be our first joint meeting between GWAV and The Chesapeake Bay Flag Association.
GWAV CBFA A joint meeting of GWAV (Great Waters Association of Vexillology) and CBFA (Chesapeake Bay Flag Association) is set for May 3-4, 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Anyone may come; no membership in NAVA, GWAV or CBFA is necessary. The cost of the meeting will be $35, which includes lunch on Saturday. You will be responsible for your own travel expenses and hotel room. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Marriott Residence Inn at the Pittsburgh Airport. The meeting will begin at noon on Saturday at the Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie, PA. There will be transportation available from the hotel to the Library. Here is the tentative schedule: After greetings and introductions, we will have several presentations, with a lunch break in between. Two of the talks are pitched for “the general public,” and the Library is publicizing them. One will be Peter Ansoff of CBFA (And President of NAVA) speaking on the American Flag in History and Myth, and the other is a talk by Bill Belanich of GWAV on Olympic Flags. At 3 PM there will be a guided tour of the well-known Civil War Room at the Library. “Vexibits” and another presentation will follow this and there will be time for displays, trading, selling etc. Saturday night is currently unscheduled. On Sunday, we will meet at the Residence Inn. There will be one or two more presentations and lots of informal time. In the afternoon, for those staying on, we will do some sightseeing in Pittsburgh. This in no way replaces the NAVA annual convention, but if you’ve never been to a NAVA or regional meeting, this is a way to find out what a flag meeting is like. If you have a paper or talk you’d like to give, please offer. This is also an opportunity to show off some of your collection of vexillological items, and talk about the flags you are interested in.
